Care Label Explained

CARE LABEL

The care label and the symbols on it form a contract between the manufacturer, retailer, purchaser and cleaner as to certain guarantees with regards to the performance of a garment when cleaned. Once the cleaning instructions on the care label have been followed and a garment fails during the cleaning process then the liability is on the retailer to repair or replace the garment. It is then to the retailers to look for compensation from the manufacturer. The British and International Standard covering this can be found within the BS EN ISO 3175-1 1998 documentation.

Once a care label has been removed from a garment then the contract is no longer enforceable and all liability for damage caused due to cleaning reverts back to the individual who removed the care label. When a care label is removed the clearer should inform the customer that the garment will be cleaned at OWNERS RISK due to the unpredictable outcome resulting from cleaning without the guidance of a care label.
